COACH EDUCATION PROGRAMME

2009

The Cricket Board of Wales recognises that Coach Education plays a pivotal role in the overall development of cricket within the country and will run various courses throughout the winter months of 2008/9 to expand and improve its existing coaching base (application form).

Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Cricket

ECB Coaching Assistant

These courses (12 hours + assessment) will help you to assist more qualified coaches, delivering aspects of coaching sessions, normally under direct supervision. This may include running warm ups / cool downs, small sided games and small group work. The target audience for this course is:
  •  Parents helping out at club junior sections
  • Volunteers working in club junior sections
  • Adults assisting club coaches on club junior practice nights
ECB Level 1 to Coach Award Conversion Course

The ECB Conversion course is designed for coaches wanting to update their existing ECB Level I qualification to the ECB Coach (UKCC2) qualification. By attending the conversion course, coaches will have an opportunity to receive the latest developments relevant to their coaching. A major focus of the updated ECB courses is the importance of balancing the technical aspects (what to coach) with the way in which coaches are able to deliver that message (how to coach) with the ultimate aim of ensuring that players learn.

All courses will require attendance or evidence of attendance on a Good Parctice Child Protection course and a minimum 3 hour First aid course as well as the enhanced CRB check.

Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Cricket

ECB Coach

The role of the ECB Coach Award holder is to be able to “Prepare for, deliver and review coaching sessions”. This course (24 hours + 10 sessions of supervised coaching + assessment) will help you to be able to:

  • Introduce and develop the game of cricket to people of all ages in  an enjoyable way
  • Develop FUNdaMENTAL movement skills
  • Develop and improve players (as people as well as cricketers) particularly at FUNdaMENTAL and Learning to Train stages of the LTAD model
  • Develop your coaching skills, knowledge and qualities

The target audience for this course is people who have gained the Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Cricket and have previous experience of playing / coaching cricket.

Both courses will require attendance or evidence of attendance on a Good Practice Child Protection course and a minimum 3 hour First aid course as well as the enhanced CRB check.

The programme of courses for 2008 and 2009 are listed below. Please contact the relevant person to check for availability for the course before sending an application form.

Workshops are also held by  Coaching Associations.

All coaches should have personal insurance and be members of the ECB Coaching Association see the ECB CA website.   Members receive the publication "Hitting the Seam", Handbook.  For merchandise and other resources: contact 0121 440 1748.

Other coaching related issues:
Each winter sees a busy picture of coaching for Welsh Squads at the National Development Centres at Neath, Llandrindod Wells, Newport, Cardiff and Towyn.  At regional level coaching programmes are run for U11-U15 youth squads.   Coaching Associations run 'open' Dragon skills award programmes, for which any WCA affiliated club can apply to the CBW for a Dragon awards starter pack. Hopefully this will encourage more clubs to run comprehensive coaching courses and stimulate coaches by offering a ready-made series of coaching activities as well as providing a certificate for children to aim for!
