ASDA Kwik Cricket

ASDA Kwik Cricket is a simple game for all boys and girls from 5 years upwards to get involved in a new-look programme.  It is the result of many years of detailed product development and research by the England and Wales Cricket Board in consultation with cricket coaches, education authorities, teachers and children.

The game is played in different formats with an Awards Scheme to test the children's skills as they develop.  If you would like to find out  more about ASDA Kwik Cricket - call the Kwik Cricket Action Line on 0800 214 314 and ask for an Information Pack.  Or you can email schools@ecb.co.uk - please supply your name and full postal address.

Nearly one million children have been involved in county, regional and national competitions since it began in 1988.  The ECB, in conjunction with ASDA, aims to make ASDA Kwik Cricket available to all 18,000 primary schools in England and Wales by 2009.

Kwik Cricket has been designed by the ECB to take young cricketers all the way from the playground to the Test arena to create future generations of England stars.  David Collier, ECB chief executive, said: “The ASDA Kwik Cricket competition is a key developmental format of the game and encourages boys and girls of all ages to get involved in cricket.  It also has strong links to the national curriculum while generating a strong connection between schools and clubs in the community.”

  Inter Cricket

A study group which included ECB Development and Coaching staff, education advisers and teachers, produced Inter Cricket a game format to bridge the gap between Kwik Cricket and the hardball game.  Its a  major ECB grassroots initiative ideal for use in secondary schools and clubs.  It increases the level of participation in the game, particularly amongst 12-14 year old children.  The game is designed to be fun, fast, exciting and to reward genuine cricket skills. It is directly linked to The NatWest Series and The NatWest Challenge in order to create an aspirational link to the international game.

60 secondary schools in Wales took part in the 2008 Nat West Inter cricket competition and the finals day was held on Friday 7th March at the National Cricket Centre in Cardiff. West was certainly best on the day as Coed Cae School , Llanelli and Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, Whitland reached the grand final which was won by Coed Cae.

Inter Cricket can be played in the playground or on grass, indoors or outdoors; it therefore underlines the ECB's commitment to promoting the game to, amongst others, inner city areas and ethnic minorities.

There is a new multi-media resource called  Get Inter Cricket  The resource has been designed for use in secondary schools and cricket clubs to assist teachers and coaches in the planning and delivery of cricket for the 11-14 age group.
